Kayin State, home to the Karen ethnic minority group, is gradually being discovered by visitors, particularly the town of Pa-An.

Places of interest

Pa-An
Only in the last few years has the capital of Kayin State been accessible to visitors. Pa-An is a charming village, seen by very few tourists, with old style teashiops and coffee house dotted around. The town is famous as the home of U Winaya, an outspoken Buddhist monk who showed unquestionable loyalty to Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the democratic movement, while she was under house arrest.
